If you are in Hokkaido, why not stop by and observe the eerie phenomenon yourself? Okiku’s hair continues to grow to this day despite haircuts from the temple’s priests. They concluded that their daughter’s restless spirit was inhabiting the doll and eventually provided it to Mannen-ji Temple where it remains today and is viewable to guests. Her family displayed the doll, named Okiku, on an altar in remembrance of their daughter and noticed that the doll’s hair was growing. Tragically, a short time later, the girl passed away from an illness. The little girl was infatuated with the doll, and they were inseparable.
